Nominations for tbe election of a city Licensing Committee will, close on Saturday next. It is understood that both the trade, and the prohibition party intend to nominate candidates. It is said that there will also be an election for tho Dunedin South Licensing Committee. For tho “Hamlet” competitions in Dunedin the essays numbered 346, and the judges report that the standard is the highest so far attained in New’ Zealand; indeed, they were of greater merit than those submitted at Adelaide.
