PERSONAL.
Drs Davies and Ardagh were passengers by the Maori from Wellington en Saturday. Sir John Nutting and Mr J. Nutting were passengers by the Maori for Wellington on Saturday night. Dr Elliott, Captain Rose, Mr O. N. Baeyrtz, Dr Wylie and Dr Gibbs left by the Maori for Wellington on Saturday night. Lieutenant-Colonel Burnett-Stuart, officer commanding the Canterbury' district, left for Wellington by tho Maori on Saturday night. Sir Charles Bowen and tho Hons E. 0. J. Stevens, J. Anstey and 0. Louisson arrived from Wellington on Saturday morning. . Messrs E. HaUenstein, J. D. Lynch and A. W. Beaven, Colonel HayhUTst and the Rev E. E. Chambers arrived from Wellington on Saturday. tDr and Mrs Wilson left by the Mokoia for Gisbome on Saturday evening. The Rev G. Roby was a passenger by the same steamer for Auckland. Tho congregation of the Papanui Presbyterian Church visited the manso on Friday evening, and gave the Rev D. D. and Mrs Rodger a surprise party. Mr J. Walter, on behalf of the congregation, presented them with a beautiful silver epergne. He said that it was just threo years since Mr and Mrs Rodger settled in the charge, and the this opportunity was taken to show the love and esteem in which they were held. Mr Rodger feelingly replied, and spoke of the happy conditions under j which he worked. Musical items were given and games indulged in, and a [ most enjoyable evening was spent.
