SUGAR COMMISSION.

WORKING CONDITIONS. United Press Association—By Electric TelegTaph—Copyright.

SYDNEY, February 24.

Before tho Sugar Commission the secretary of the Sugar Workers' Union gave evidence that the working conditions were deplorable. Some employees at sugar works worked in a semi-nude state while others were absolutely nude. Bad effects were caused by terrific heat and the sudden changes to lower temperatures, which developed a disease known as toe rot, rheumatism, influenza, and bad teeth. Those who started as boys never reached maturity, and if men worked any length of time they were unfitted for other work and did not live to old age.
