SCHOOL COMMITTEES.
A meeting of the Ashburton School Committee was held on Monday evening, the Rev H. E. Bel!hou.-e presiding. The headmaster reported that the attendance at both schools had been well maintained during November. The bcrough school roll numbered 40-1, with an average attendance of 371, and Allenton 101, with au average of 76. Regret was expressed at, losing the ser« vices of Misses Kucx and Turner, pupilteachers, and it was decided to advertise for pupil-teachers to (ill the vacancies on the staff. The brea king-upand prize-giving ceremonies were fixed lor Thursday, December 2'2. The headmaster stated his intention of giving a gold medal as one of the dux prizes, and the members of the general committee agreed to contribute the cost of one of the dux medals.
