SYDNEY, September 13A severe earth tremor wa6 recorded at the Riverview College Seismograph on Saturday evening, starting at seven o'clock and lasting several hours. The origin was about 1700 miles north-north-east. HEAVY RAINFALL. The rain has stopped, but the weather is still threatening. Over three inches of Tain has fallen since Sunday night. TENDERS ACCEPTED. The Federal Government has accepted an Australian tender for two thousand reams of paper for the land tax forms. The tender was slightly higher than the foreign tenders. NO LIQUOR TRAFFIC BY POST. Postal regulations have been issued prohibiting the postage of alcoholic beverages except as samples. LAND FOR IMMIGRANTS. ADELAIDE, December 13. Sir Carlaw Martin, chairman of the Scottish Agricultural Commission, says that a block should be partly cleared for immigrants. At present the States were losing by condemning agriculturalists to work as axemenBRILLIANT METEOR. A brilliant meteor crossed the sky on Saturday night, accompanied by a rumbling sound and an earth tremor.
