[Pee, Press Association.] AUCKLAND, June 17

Tho body of an elderly man, with grey hair and grey beard, was found in the" harbour to-night. Up till a late hour the body had net been identified. WQODVTLLE, Juno 17.

A man namod John Lawson met with an accident at the Oringi railway crossing to-day. He was driving a cart, and was run into by tho train. The horse was killed and the man seriously injured. He was conveyed to the hospital at Palmerston North. INVERCARGILL, Juno 17.

The body of Jane Acker, a widow, aged sixty-six years, was found in the Oreti River oil Thursday evening. Deceased, who worked as a housekeeper, had been in poor health. INQUEST. Ail inquest was held last evening by Mr H. W. Bishop. District Coroner, on tho body of Patrick Maher, who died on the previous day. Evidence was given by Elizabeth Altkins that the deceased went to the house where she lived in Sydenham on Tuesday afternoon and asked for a man named Stephenson, who was out. He returned on Wednesday and said that lie had been robbed of £0 and bis bank book, and Stephenson lent him 2s. Ho went away and returned at 4.30 and had tea and stayed for the night. Ho went away about 10.30 on Thursday morning, coming back about 2.15 p.m. Witness left- the house for a moment, and on returning found him lying over on his arm, dead.
