EXHIBITION ISSI SCHOLARSHIPS
AWARDS CONFIRMED

LONDON, Juno 15.
The Commissioners of the 1851 Exhibition have awarded science scholarships to Mr G. F. Davidson, Sydney; Mr J. C Masson, Melbourne; and Mr C. M. Stubbs, New Zealand.
The scholarships are for three years, and have a valuo of £l5O a year. They aro tenable at Homo or foreign universities, and the winners are expected to engage in original research work. It was ono of these science scholarships that enabled Professor Rutherford to commence the investigations that subsequently made him famous. The award of the Commissioners, as far as the Now Zealand scholarships is concerned, is merely a formal confirmation of the award made by the Son ato of the New Zealand University. The scholarship was allotted by the Senate on the papers written at the last degree examinations in November, and its award of the “ blue ribbon ” of the science course was announced some five months ago. Mr Stubbs’s research work was conct rned with -the electric conductivity of carbon-dioxide in solution undor nigh pressure. He will leave Christchurch for Eng’ .nd this evening.
