Mr Duncan Rutherford was a passenger for Wellington last evening. Mr D. Reese went north by the ferry steamer last evening. Mr and Mrs Bcauchainp Platts (Dunedin) and Mr D. Ingram (Auckland) arrived in Christchurch yesterday. Mr T. H. Davey, M.P., will leave for Wellington about, the end of the week, and will visit Auckland before the opening of Parliament. Mr C. S. Nixon, Collector of Customs at Wellington and Inspector for tho Department, is visiting Timaru, where he was stationed a row years ago. The Rangiora School Committee yesterday appointed Miss Buchanan, mistress at the Oxford School, to the position of infant mistress at the Rangiora School. Tho Rev E. Eliot Chambers, vicar of St Saviour's Church, Lyttelton, has recovered from ail illness which compelled him to keep to his house for tho past two or three weeks. Mr G. Witty, M.P., left Christchurch last evening for Wellington, on his way to Auckland. He will not return to Canterbury beforo tho sitting of Parliament on June 28. At a meeting cf the Presbytery at Wanganui yesterday, says a Press Association telegram, it was agreed to sustain tho call to the Rev A. Doull from Otahuhu to St Andrew's, Palmerstou North. At a meeting of tho Timaru Agricultural and Pastoral Association on Saturday, Mr Thomas Teschemaker was granted nvo months' leave of absence, as ho intonds to live in Christchurch for that period. On Saturday Mr G. A. Lewin, town clerk at Lyttelton, was taken seriously ill, and will be confined to his bed for at least a fortnight. It will probably bo several weeks beforo Mr Lewin will be able to resume his duties. Mr T. G. Rowley, of Worcester Street, Linwood, has received cable advice stating that his son, Mr T. J. Rowley, after a three years' course of study, has taken the degree of D.D.S. at the North-western University, Chicago. Dr Rowley is expected to return to New Zealand at an early date. Tho Rev H. S. Leaoh announced at All Saints' Church, Holdtika, on Sunday, says a West Coast correspondent of the " Lyttelton Times," that during tho past week he had been asked to take charge of St Luke's Church at Christchurch for twelve months from the beginning of next year, during the absence of the vicar, the Rev TV. TV. Sedgwick, in England, and that he had accepted tho proposal.
