DUNEDIN NOTES.

DUNEDIN, March 16. A very high compliment was paid by the Otago Education Board this morning to the Chief, Inspector (Air P. Goyen), who has drawn up a special catalogue of books for school reading for school libraries and for prizes. The Rev I’. B. Fraser said that probably the catalogue was without its equal in Australasia. It is probable that the Board will set up a model library in the education office for the guidance of the schools. I ■ ■
The member for Invercargill, who attended tho leaseholders’ conference at Christchurch last week, said to a representative -of the “ Southland Times*’ on his return home:--“There is an impression.- that the radical policy goes in the direction oi talcing away tho small freehold from every man. That- is not; so, and in order to make it- plain tlie conference staled the matter plainly in the following conclusion: —(e) That we affirm the principle that there, shall bo no interference with existing leasehold or freehold titles, except whore required for settlement or other public purpose.” Speaking on parliamentary prospects, Air Hanan stated that he was satisfied that the Land Bill of last session would not he brought before the House again, and he doubted very much if there would be another Land Bill introduced in the coming session. He thought that the greater part of tho session should bo devoted to consideration of the Local Government Bill which - the Prime Aliuister last session announced he would introduce after the vacation. Consideration would also, he believed, be given to some amendment of the Licensing Act.
