BOROUGH COUNCILS.
AKAROA
A fortnightly meeting of the Akaroa Borough Council was held on Wednesday ; present—The Mayor (Mr G. Armstrong) and Councillors Lewitt, Armstrong, Vangioni, Walker, Micliell, Newton, Armstrong and lialliday. Correspondence was read from the Tourist Department stating that it would be pleased to accept the pictures of Akaroa offered by the Council. The Municipal Association sent notice that- the annual conference would be held in July.' The Akaroa Athletic Sports Association was granted leave to charge only for the use of the pavilion at its sports. The Akaroa Beautifying Association wrote, recommending that fascines should be placed on the beach at the north end of the borough for reclamation purposes. The report of the Wharves Committee, recommending that tenders should bo invited for the erection of a new wharf office, was adopted. The Lighting Committee recommended that the I/’Aube Hill scheme for electrical installation should be adopted, and it was resolved that a public meeting should bo called to authorise the raising of a loan of £4500 to carry out the work. It was decided to commence the concrete kerbing in the main street, beginning at the north end. It was resolved to hold a special meeting cf the Council on March 23, to consider the electors’ list. The financial statement showed that the receipts since the previous meeting had been £l9 Os 6d. Accounts for £45 16s 2d were passed for payment. ,
