EARLY OPENING FORESHADOWED. [From Onr. Correspondent.] WELLINGTON, May 24. In view of tho probability of Parliament being called together on Juno 10 or 14, his Excellency tho Governor has altered his arrangements in regard to bis visit to the Cook Islands. The decision was arrived at on Saturday and it is understood that it is duo to cable advice from England with respect to tho date of the Imperial Defence Corfference. Orders were also given by the Government on Saturday that the alterations to tho Parliament buildings,must be out of hand at tho cud of the present week. This means feverish haste and th 0 employment of as many hands as can possibly be taken on to complete tho work by Saturday. Tho members of Parliament who aro in Wellington at present taking part in tho deliberations of the Timber Commission interviewed tho Prime Minister today on tho subject of the date of tho approaching session, urging that ns most of them Jived at some distance from the seat of Government it. was most important that they should be given tho earliest pcssiblo notice if Parliament was to tie opened earlier than usual. They were informed that a definite announcement would not be made before to-morrow.
Tlio Prime Minister stated this afternoon that the Government had not vet finally decided tho date of tho assembling of Parliament. This and other matters hinged very much on tho time fixed for tlio Imperial Defence Conference. •'
