The coal-owners announced to the South Wales Conciliation-Board meeting their intention to serve a month’s notice oil tho workers oil Juno 1, in connection with the eight hours demand, to terminate contracts. This will involve a lock-out of 150,000 men at tho end of June, unless a settlement is arranged before that date. Lord Akhvyri’a decision has reduced the Welsh miners’ wages by per cent.
THE BROKEN HILL MINERS. END OF THE TROUBLE. TOM MANN’S ENGAGEMENT TERMINATED. SYDNEY, May 24. Tho Broken Hill strike has been declared off, the pickets have been withdrawn, and tho men will return to work this morning. The combinod unions gave Tom Mann a week’s notice of the termination of his engagement as organiser. Mr Mann, speaking at a meeting, commenced dramatically by saying that after the triumphant entry into Jerusalem there came tho crucifixion. A fortnight back ho entered Broken Hill carried shoulder high, now they wanted to crucify him; but he would not bo driven out of Australia, he would not be kicked about or insulted.
