ASHBURTON'COUNTY RACING CLUB.

At a meeting of tbc committee of the Ashburton County Racing Club yesterday afternoon, a .etter was received from the Racing Conference stating that tho dates fur race meetings in 1909-10 must be chosen before April 30. It was resolved that, application for the following dates should be made: Spring meeting, September 15 and 16; autumn meeting, May 11 and 12. The Ground Committee reported that the course had been put in good order for the coming meeting, and the starting-gates hod been rearranged.

The Christchurch Racing Club’s meeting will be held s.t Plumpten to-day. Fair sized fields are engaged in all the events, and there should be some interesting racing. A start will be made at, 12.45 p.m., and a. special tram ten-ice has been arranged to convey visitors to the course.

Whistlecraft has been scratched for the Maiden Plate ami Jflitaway for the Porangahau Handicap at tho Hawke’s Bay Jockey Club’s meeting. A total of 2.45,000 was realised for_ the yearlings sold at tho Easter sale in Sydney, tho average working out at 128 guineas per head.

Tho New Zealand-bred Pilot, was top weight, with List 41b. ir. the Grand Annual Stceolechasc, which was to be rur. at IVarrnambool, Victoria, on Thursday. At the- Australian Jockey Club’s meeting, in connection with the disqualification of Lord Nolan for interfering with Neitli in the Cumberland Stakes, the stewards cautioned Bollon, the rider of Lord Nolan, against spoiling the chances of other horses in a race by not falling back when bis mount svas running ungenerously. Golden Slipper lias gone right out of fnvour in Australia, and in the Final Handicap, at the Australian Jockey Clubs meeting, she -.Vis handicapped at 7st Gib. Mr 8. Nettlefold, who is interested in Pink *Uu and other horses in D. J. .Prices stable, left Melbourne recently on a trip to England, where ho expects to purchase a few racehorses to bring back with him. . A match between the champion trotting stallions Emulator and the American-bred Marvin Wilkes, which is to take place shortly, is cxo’ting considerable interest in Meloourne. Emulator has a. record of 2min 17sec anti Marvin Wilkes had 2min 12Jsec to Ins credit before he left America.
