EGG-LAYING COMPETITIONS.

In the “ New Zealand Poultry Journal’s ” duck egg-laying competition, which is being held at the Poultry Institute. St Albans, all tho pens are still in a heavy moult, with tho exception of Mr P. Jack’s pen, which ha* secured a good kadi It is natural for ducks wheu removed from their usual quarters and placed on a new ration, to go into a moult from which it takes them a mouth or six weeks to recover. After this is over it is hoped they will begin laying regularly. Thirteen pens have not yet begun to lay. Tho total laid is 160 eggs, and individual totals are as follow:—P-. Jack SO, W. Knight 21, E. W. Mills 19, W. S. Smith 19, W. S. Smith (No. 2 pen) 16, G. Burley 6, F. Ritchie 6. J. Dowthwait© 5, T. Smithers 3, J. Hadley 3 and Brake and Duke 3.
