Tho well-known •thoroughbred, Nelson, by King Cole—My Idea, died on Thursday (it the 3table of his owner, Mr E. Cutis, Chokebore Lodje, Upper Riccarton. Nelson ws>-a foaled in 1880, so that he was twenty-eight years old. Ho was a high-class performer on the turf, his victories' including the Great Northern Derby, Auckland Cup (fhrefc times), Auckland Racing Club Handicap, Dunedis Cup and "Wellington Cup, ss well as several food races in Australia. His sticcessos at the stud were not so numerous, but in Seahorso he left at least one first-class horse. COURSING. The first coursing meeting of the recentlyformed North Canterbury Coursing Club is to be held at Springbank to-day. Thirty dogs were nominated, but the number was reduced by ballot to twenty, in order that the round's might, be completed in one day.
