THE FLAX INDUSTRY.

[Pee Press Association.] WELLINGTON, February 14. A deputation from the Flaxmillers' Association waited on the Hon 11. M'Nab to-day. Complaint was made that there was a. lack of uniformity in the grading at the different ports. It was suggested that a sample hank of each grade should be placed at each port. The deputation asked that the bonus previously offered for an improved method of treating flax should be renewed. Several minor complaints about the flax regulations were made. In reply to the deputation, the Minister, speaking about the application for a bonus, said he did not want to encumber his estimates w r ith a large Bum of money which was not being taken advantage of, but he would not place an obstacle in the way of a bonus again being offered, if it wore likely to have the desired effect. A conference of these people interested in the industry would, no doubt, result in a great deal of good. He did not- wish to see manufacturers being put to unnecessary expanse, and would consult with Mr Fulton on his return to New Zoaland about the minor matters brought under his notice. Tjio difficulty concerning grading could then be definitely settled.
