Shrapnel Shell and Miretta went once round in company, both moving freely. Clanchattan covered seven furlongs in good style. Chatterer and Chicane finished together at tho end of sin furlongs. Hatley went a mile by himself, struggling hard for his head. Khama coveted two miles steadily, finishing fast, and. Haydn did similar work. Cavalry and Montigo reeled o2 a mile in good style, the latter having much tho better of tho gallop. Intelligence! finished ■ a little in front of Medallist at the end of four furlongs. Kuku and Kurawaka galloped six furlongs, Kurawaka showing the way at tho finish. Waitorero covered two miles at three-quarter pace, and Parituiu negotiated four obstacles satisfactorily. A number of other horses were also exercised. CANTERBURY JOCKEY CLUB. Corona was scratched for tho Grand National Steeplechase at 9 o’clock yesterday morning. Assayer was scratched for all engagements at the Grand National meeting at 12.45 p.m. yesterday. COURSING. PALMERSTON NORTH COURSING CLUB. [Pee Pbbbs Association.] PALMERSTON NORxH, July 18. The finals of the Maiden otake and the Members’ Sweepstake, at the Palmerston North Coursing Club’s meeting, were run yesterday in fine weather. The ground was good and there was a large attendance. The final of tho Maiden Stake was an exceptionally interesting course, Messrs Fitzgerald Bros., Wellington, winning tho stake with St Olliver, who beat Lady .Cardigan, the nomine tion of Mr W. J. Williams, Pending. tho points for tho final course being eight to six. In the Members’ Sweepstake, Mr H. Overton's Searchlight and Mr Moss’s Bose remained in the final, and the owners decided to divide tho prize. The club made the substantial profit of £IOO over tho fixtures.
