SCHOOL COMMITTEES.

A meeting ot : the committee of tlio Akaroa District High School was held on Monday; present—Messrs Newton (chairman), Munro, Dcdds and Hcnning. Correspondence was read from tho Education Board regarding improvements to the master's liousa now being "built. It was decided to ask the Board to request candidates for vacancies arising on the Board to furnish committees with their addresses, ae often candidates are qnito unknown to country committees. An application from the master for chemicals for tho secondary department was forwarded on to the Education Board. Tho inspector's report was received, and considered very satisfactory.

A) meeting of the New Brighton School Committee was held on Wednesday evening; present—Mr P. (.!. Withers (chairman), tho Bev H. Purchas, Messrs Bargrove, Caygill, Hanharu, Macfarlane, Hawker and Scoblo. Accounts were passed for payment amounting to £1 8s Cd. Tho Visiting Committee reported the result of a recent visit as being highly satisfactory. Messrs Hawker and Seoble were sippointed a Visiting Committee for the ensuing month. The headmaster's'report stated that tho highest attendance for the month was 273, and the average 253.5. Tho number on the roll was 293.
