SUMNER TRAM SERVICE AND HEATHCOTE BRIDGE.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—The interest taken by you in matters affecting the advancement of Christchurch and suburbs prompts me to bring under your notice the matter of the vexatious six months’ delay allowed (by those in control) in having the Heath cote Bridge completed, now said to be finished and waiting for the Government inspector to pass the structure as safe for running the electric tram service. As the patient and longsuffering residents and visitors of Redcliffs and Sumner had good reason to expect that the electric tram service would’have been installed quite six months ago, even now not a few are disposed to fear that the recent friction between the present Sumner Council and Tramway Board may lead to some further delay in running the electric service to Sumner. I venture to think that nothing of that kind will influence the Board, but that they will within the next week or fortnight arrange, if not for a full permanent service, for the convenience of the business residents and workmen, run a halfhour electric service from Sumner between 7.15 and 9.15 a-.m., and from Christchurch from 4.15 till 6.15 p.m. Thanking you in anticipation, and relying on your valuable support in a good and deserving cause.—l am etc., PROGRESSIVE.
