SHIPPING. LONDON, September 15. The Paparoa arrived at Plymouth today, in time for the September wool sales. THE HIGH COMMISSIONER’S REPORT. [Per Press Association.] WELLINGTON, September 17. The Department of Industries and Commerce has received tho following cable message from tho High Commissioner, dated London, September 15 : Frozen meat.—There was more inclination to purchase mutton during the past week, and though the stocks on hand are heavy, the market is, firm in anticipation of smaller supplies arriving. Canterbury mutton is quoted at 3|d, North Island 3sd. Lamb—The market is firm, with a hardening tendency, and stocks have been reduced, light-weight Canterbury lamb being extremely scarce, and quoted at 4i|d. The average price of other than Canterbury brands is 4fd. The stock of New Zealand beef on hand is light, and in much hotter demand; hindquarters are quoted at 3|d, and forequarters at 2id. , Butter. —The butter market is firm, with a large demand for the bettor grades. Two thousand four hundred and forty-two boxes of New Zealand butter arrived during August. Choice New Zealand make® are quoted at 115 s, Danish at 1235) and Canadian at 114 s X>er cwt. Cheese.—The market for cheese is quiet, with a tendency in favour of buyers. A good deal of the cheese now arriving is being held in store. Canadian makes are quoted at 61e per cwt. Hemp.—The market i® quiet, with little business doing. A good feeling, however, prevails, and prices are unchanged since last week. Cocksfoot seed.—The market for cocksfoot is quiet, and bright seed is Gearce, 171 b clean-dreseed lot® being worth 45s per owt. Wool.—The wool market is firm for immediate delivery, and weaker for future deliveries. Current prices for Bradford tops are as follow :—Thirtysixes, low oross-breds, Is 4fd; forties, low oroes-breds, Is 53.-d; forty-fours, medium oross-breds, Is 6id; fifties, half-breds, Is 10|d; fifty-sixes, quarterfa reds, 2s; sixties, merinoes, 2s 2Jd.
