MILITARY ATHLETIC SPORTS.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —Tho work of the GarrisonAmateur Athletic Club has, so far, been of such a satisfactory nature that I trust duo care will bo exercised with regard to the combined meeting taking place on Tuesday evening at the Earracks. My reason for writing is on account of ugly rumours ae to the likely appearance of professionals, whose correct names are not on the programme, and the determination of a certain official to stop their competing at all cost®. Ido not know tho officials of the Garrison Club, or I might approach them, but I certainly think that this matter should bo taken in hand. If there is any truth in it, the Athletic Association’s aid should be invoked and anything like a “scene” avoided. It is quite difficult to interest the public in amateur athletics a® it i®, and “ cronk ” work at such a gathering will do harm to the sport, and dishearten the Volunteers as well.—l am, etc., SPRINTER.
