THE WEATHER.

Tho Akaroa correspondent of the “Lyttelton Times” writes:—After a good spell of fine weather wo havo been treated to quite a change. Cold southwest winds with rain have been the order of the day. The hills around the harbour are now topped with snow. The lambing is. reported to bo proceeding very well, though some farmers hauo lost a good many owes. Exceptionally heavy rain fell at Fairlie on Saturday afternoon and night, being the heaviest fall experienced for some months. It cleared off again, however, during the night and Sunday was beautifully fine. Writing from Cheviot, the correspondent of the “ Lyttelton Times ” says:— Beautiful weather has been experienced for tho last week, and the young lambs are doing splendidly. On Friday evening the wind went round to the east, and a good rain set in. On Saturday it again changed to south-west, with very cold showers, but not sufficient rain fell to do much harm. The accounts of tho lambing are very satisfactory, and there is every likelihood of a very good percentage on Cheviot. At the Ashburton Domain, yesterday morning, lldeg. of frost were registered.
