THE CLERGY AND TATTERSALL'S SWEEPS.
TO THE EDITOR, Sir, —There are always two rides to a question, and it is just as well that the readers of your paper should hear both sides- They have already, heard the “ snuffle-busters’ ” side, hut ‘ with the cunning of those gentlemen who have, raved and ranted, about the amount of money leaving the colony for investment in “ Tatterealls ” they have carefully refrained from - giving f any, figures as to prizes - drawn by people in New Zealand. With a view qf enlightening them I am, writing to Australia for a list of prize ' winners) in New Zealand during the past three years, ' and. until that arrives-I . will ■just give actual figures in one’sweep drawn last August on ' the , Adelaide Grand National Hurdle Race. The first prize £6OOO, -the second prize £2OOO and the third prize £IOOO, all came to New Zealand. This, of course, is quite apart from' hundreds of cash bonus tickets and other starters and nonstarters. In thus drawing attention to the matter I ask the public, in accepting the words of those who\ are-trying to prevent people - from joining m a perfectly fair and legitimate investment, to look a little more closely into the other side of the question, viz., the money that comes hack again to the colony.—l.am,-etc.,.. . . ■ . . INVESTOR.:
