CASE DISAIISSED IN ASHBURTON,

[Frovi Our Correspondent.] ASHBURTON, September 14. At the Ashburton Alagistrate’s Court to-day, Mr Wray, S.M., gave judgment in tho case of Frederick Bradshaw Robinson, charged with' keeping liquor for sale at Tinwald, which was heard last week. His Worship held that there was not conclusive evidence to support the charge, while the liquor found on tho premises had been brought in in a legitimate manner. The case was dismissed. In the case of Frederick Charles Startup, charged with keeping liquor for sale at Fairfield, an adjournment for a week was granted. [Per Press Association.] OAAIARU, September 14. At the Alagistrate’s Court this morning, before Alajor Keddell, S.M., Charles Kearns, a second-hand dealer, pleaded guilty to keeping liquor for sale in a nodicenso area, and was fined £SO and costs. DUNEDIN, September 14. At the Police Court to-day Alice Blair, residing in Cumberland Street, in the centre of the city, was charged with sly grog-selling. Evidence was given by two constables who joined the force on the first of the month that they went to the house bn Sunday, and were supplied with a bottle of beer, for which they paid 3s. When leaving they asked for another bottle to take away with them, and this was supplied at the same price. Mr C. C. Graham, S.M., imposed a fine of £SO and 7e costs, and on a second charge arising out of a similar transaction on the following day a fine of £lO and costs was inflicted. Sergeant King said that the woman had been carrying on business for years. The Magistrate remarked that this and other cases showed that hotelkeepers were not altogether responsible for Sunday drunkenness.
