TAIT’S LIVING PICTURES. At the Theatre Royal on Saturday evening Taib’s Living Pictures attracted another very large audience. The pictures were nicely diversified. Many were humorous, others educational, some purely spectacular, but ail were followed wit-li keen interest and aroused frequent and spontaneous ‘ applause. They ranged from Ceylon to Melbourne and'much further afield, and translated London, with its colossal wonderlands, to the four corners of , a limelight screen, reproducing the city in its full vigor of every-day life. _ The pictures mast, ho eee-n to be appreciated, and the opportunity will be afforded to-night. To-morrow night a change of scenes will be effected. OPERA HOUSE. Fresh talent occupied the boards at tho Opera House on Saturday evening, on the occasion of the weekly change of programme. Some of tho artists had already established themselves in the good graces of Christchurch patrons of vaudeville, while the others cam© with good reputations to win fresh laurels. Miss Pearl Helm rich was the first stranger in tho first half of the programme, but she soon became popular by her clever handling of the part of a serio. The Golden Duo reappeared in their song and dance specialty and the other contributors v/ere Misses Ivy Gailardi, Cissy Whit-ford and Ethel Leslie, with Messrs Will Stevens and Carl Collier. The second part of tho programme was introduced successfully by Miss Gertrude Emery and Master Charles Hayes, who performed graceful aerial feats and clever acts of contortion.. Mr Will Lochrane won further plaudits with a number of new comicalities and Craydon and Barton gave several very popular dialogue sketches. Mimicry of actors past and present was purveyed by Air Carden Wilson, and Walker and Hughes were as well received as on their previous appearances. Tho reappearance of. the Golden Duo before tho final farce was the signal for a continuation of the applause that had been distributed lavishly throughout the evening and tho curtain was rung down on a programme that sustained the good reputation of the present management. CATHOLIC CONCERT. A preliminary announcement of a concert winch is to be given in the Choral Hall on June 14, in aid of the Roman Catholic Church at Hammer, appeared in Saturday’s issue. This concert is being given for the liquidation of a debt of £4OO which is at present on the chnrch. A capital programme is being arranged, and among the performers will he Airs Gowor-Burns, Miss 0. Livingstone, Alcssns Claude Allan, Buchanan, Coombs, Read, R. A. Horne and Herr Zimmermann. Full particulars will appear in a future advertisement. THE COLOSSEUM. Skating at the Colosseum continues to increase in popularity, and on Saturday there was the usual attendance. Sessions will be held to-day, and during, the week there will be a hoop race and a girls’ race (Aliss Fox’s prize). Future attractions include a mil© race, a young men’s invitation night and a poster carnival. WAINONI PARK. Alany alterations are being made at Wainoni for the coming season. A largo 450fb well in the arena, to be used for spectacular effects, is being sunk. The, foundations of a. new hothouse are - being laid, which, .when finished, . will be one of the finest in New Zealand. The Austrian Band played a number of choice selections yesterday, and will appear again -on Sunday.
