AN EVANGELISTIC MISSION.

OXFORD TERRACE BAPTIST CHURCH. The Rev W. Lockhart Morton, of Adelaide, began an evangelistic mission at the Oxford Terraco Baptist Church yesterday, preaching at tho morning and evening services. There was a large congregation in the morning, and tli© church was crowded in tho evening, when Mr Morton delivered an impressive sermon. Preaching from the text “ Fight the good fight of faith; lay hold on eternal life,” tho missioner sard that of the many questions stirring human hearts, one most often asked was; “What is a Christian?” Men gave various definitions, many of them unsatisfying and wrong, but the best idea of Christianity was to be obtained from the itords of St Paul which ( he had quoted as a text. The idea uppermost in the mind of the Apastle was that the Christian was in a militant condition, and ho therefore counselled his young friend Timothy in words that showed him the whole, compass of Christianity. He spoke of faith as tho fundamental principle of Christianity, ho revealed its chief characteristic of goodness, ho mad© its practical expression apparent in tho injunction to fight, and ho mentioned the result or reward of Christianity, the laying hold of eternal life. There was something intensely practical about Christianity, and it. was tor those who wore not Christians to lay bold of it. Christ was waiting to enter the hearts of all people, but to lay hold of Him they must let go of everything else. lie urged them to put aside- ail hindrances, to cleanse their* hearts, and to receive Christ as the Saviour' and Controller of their lives. Mr Morton’s mission will continue for a fortnight. Services will be held each day at 7.30 p.rn., preceded I)} 1 prayer meetings at t p.m., and on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday Mr Morton will conduct Bible-readings at 3 p.m.
