GIRLS’ HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS.

Yesterday was observed as a holiday by the Christchurch Girls’ High School pupils, when the annual sports meeting was held near New Brighton, in the grounds of Mr Allan Hopkins, which he kindly placed at the disposal of the Lady Principal. They proved most suitable in every way, the velyetyterxacfd lawns and shady trees combining to form an ideal spot for the, purpose. At eleven o’clock, when the girls and their teachers and friends, conveyed in two special trams, had arrived on the scene, it became apparent that a girls’ sports meeting was a serious matter, and those who remembered the first meeting hold eleven years ago m the tinv playground of the Girls yHigh school could not help contrasting tho little band of that occasion, and its air of general inexperience, with tho largo and enthusiastic gathering of yesterday. Taken all round, the meeting was a most interesting one, and tho outing extremely enjoyable. Afternoon . tea was provided, apd afterwards the prizes' were presented to the winners by Miss Gibson, The gathering broke up after giving three cheers for Mr and Mrs Allan Hopkins an acknowledgment of their kindness in lending their grounds to the pupils.
