cablegram from the High Commissioner, dated London, October 23:—* Mutton—The mafket remains very de» pressed at prices quoted last week 1 . 1 River Plate mutton is 3d lower. Lamb —The market has collapsed. Stocks on f hand are heavy, but are widely distributed among agents, who are pushing sales. The average price to-day fear New Zealand lamb, Canterbury brand, ■ is 43d per lb; for brands other than Canterbury, 4d per lb. Reef—Tlje market is quiet, and small business is doing. The average price to-day for hindquarters of New Zealand beef ia 3ld per lb, forequarters 2jd per lb. Butter—The market is quiet and rather unsettled. Danish butter has declined to 120 s per cwt, whilst others remain steady. Cheese —The market is quiet, with a tendency in favour of buyers. Canadian, 57s- ner cwt. Hemp—The market is steady. The price of New Zealand hemp, “ good fair Wellington” grade on spot to-day is £3O 10s, Octo-ber-Maroh shipments ditto. There has been no alteration in the cocksfoot seed market since last week. A cable message received yesterday from Messrs Winchcombe. Carson and Co., of Sydney, stated:—The wool market is strong. W© sold to-day five thousand bales, greasy to 13d, ecouroda to 22’d.
