ROAD BOARDS.

AVON, The monthly meeting- of the Aron Road Board was held on J une 12; present—Messrs Walter (chairman), Clelaud, Morgan, Paritli and Rowe. Messrs Marshall and Tyson interviewed the Board, and asked that a culvert across Radcliffe Road should bo replaced by a largdr one. The chairman, with Messrs Rowe and Cleland, were appointed to inspect the place, with power to act. Correspondence was received from several ratepayers, complaining of stray horses and cattle in Papanui. It was decided to communicate with the police, asking for assistance in dealing with the nuisance. The Papanui Progress Committee wrote asking for information with! reference to unformed roads, and drawing attention to several matters requiring attention. The clerk reported that the matters mentioned had already been attended to. Mr T. M. Abbott asked that the name of Fisher Street should be changed to Norfolk Street. The Board had no objection to tho change, provided the majority of the ratepayers on the street were agreeable. The district engineer l wrote stating that he intended to remove the railway gates from Nfjldsr’s Road crossing, and it was decided to request him to delay action for a month, to allow of inquiries being made. The Selwyn County Council wrote asking the Board to purchase birds’ heads at (id a dozen and distribute poisoned grain, and it was decided to comply with the request. jiTho tender of Messrs Vv r . Philpott and Son was accepted for the supply of horse-feed. After consideration of tho estimated receipts and expenditure for the year, a general rat© of Jd in the £ was struck. The finance report showed receipts sincsr last meeting £lO4 2s Id, and debtor balance £661 16s sd. Accounts for £hJ Ms lid were passed for payment.

RICCARTON. A mooting . f tho Riccarton Road Board was held on Juno 12; present— Messrs S. A. Staples, H. J. Herrett, J. B. Hanson and G. W. Thomas. Mr Staples was re-elected chairman, iho surveyor reported (1) that the Drainage Board had agreed to put in a concrete invert for about a chain in length in tho Pananui drain; (2) that Mr Barrett had agreed to transfer, free of cost, a strip, of land along Langdon’s Road for road widening purposes; and (3) that the Selwyn County Council had agreed to give -he levels for the tramway along tho Riccarton Park Road. Tho tender of Mr J • Worthington for leasing reserve 323 at £5 por annum was accepted. Iho Fendalton School Committee ' wrote stating that tho committee proposed to erect a hath in tho school grounds and asking the Board for a donation towards tho cost. It was resolved that a grant of £25 should bo made on condition that the bath would be for the use of the school children and properly constituted swimming clubs in the district. Tho offer of Mr H. Holland to hire tho Bbard a traction engine for stone crushing at tho rate of £2 10s per week was accepted. Mr G. Witty, M.H.R., wrote enclosing a letter from the Public Trustee agreeing to give the Board a strip of land along the northern boundary of Wright s estate to widen Blenheim Road. It was resolved' that the thanks of the Board should be conveyed to Mr Witty for tho energetic manner in which he had pushed the matter to a successful issue. The Board took into consideration tho question of rates still outstanding, and tho clerk was instructed to take legal proceedings for the recovery of same. Accounts for £336 is were passed for payment, TEMPLETON. The Templeton Road Board met on June 5; present—Messrs G. Witty I (chairman), Bailey, Carr, Davies and Leslie. 4 deputation from the Canterbury Saleyards Company, Limited, waited on tho Board with reference to an application to the Minister of Roadways to dedicate to the Crown a piece of land alongside the railway between Curlett’s Road and Smith’s Road, near Sockburn, for the purpose of making a public read. After discussion it was agreed to mako the application as requested, provided that the Saleyards Company would deposit with the Board a sum of money equivalent to tho, cost of making tho proposed road and any other expenses connected therewith, was decided that each member of tho Board should purchase small birds’ heads at sixpence por dozen. An application from the county engineer, in view of tho water-race being extended from near Sockburn to Plumpton, to construct open crossings, was granted. It was decided to have the Halsweli Junction Road formed as scon as convenient. Accounts amounting to £lB4 ’s 6d were passed for payment.
