WELLINGTON NOTES.
[Fr.Oit OUK CORRKSI’ONDENX ] ‘WELLINGTON, April 4. The Benevolent Trustees have lately experienced a'sensation. A woman in indigent circumstances applied lor relief, and it was granted in the shape of rations for herself and family, on the understanding that she did some work at the Benevolent Homo. The rations were given for the prescribed period, and the woman wont to tne Home, did half a day’s work there, and then took out a summons for half a crown against the master of the Home for' the work she had done. The summons cost her 5s ready money, and the Trustees paid the 7s 6d rather than have any 'further trouble, not because they considered the charitable aid lav, was against- them, but because they thought the Magistrate, who has lately been corresponding with them over their treatment of another woman, ifcighfc give judgment against tnem under the equity provisions of the -Magistrates’ .Court Act. The neonie of Wellington have already contributed £BOO of the £2OOO required for rendering assistance to and treatment for indigent tives.
