CRICKET.

The matches in connection -with th* Thursday Association were commenced yesterday under favourable weather conditions. The rain that fell on Che previous evening did not affect the wicket, which; played fast. The following are the results:— • FIRST GRADE. High scoring characterised the match between Union and Papanui at Lancaster Park. Going in first Union ran up a total of 423 for eight wickets, two of their men (Robertson 114 andi Ford 124) retiring. The others who batted' well were Thomas 56, Maloohnson 40, Fulton 34, Hammond 17 and Hebden 16. Of the Papanui bowlers Henwood was the most successful. ■""■rcantile and Lyttelton tried conclue. .»• at Lancaster Park, and going in first Mercantile made 105, of which total Petm contributed 51. The only others to reach double figures were Rudd (14) and Mitchell (10). Mahar captured the majority of *j« wickets. At call of time Lyttelton had three wickets down for 115 (Page 53 not out, D. Malar 31 and Comer 17). SECOND GRADE. In the Grocers v. Butchers A game the former could only make 37 (Francis 18), mainly owing to the good howling of Grey and Roberts. The Butchers responded with 112 (Roberts 42, Grey 2S and Robertson 19). On going in again the Grocers made 66 (Butterfield 23), the Butchers winning the match by an innings and 9 runs. Grey captured the most of the wickets for the winners, and West and M'Arthur were the most successful bowlers for the losers; Sydenham won the gams agai.net Lyttelton by six wickets. The scores were: Lvttstawi 42 (Parker 13) and 32 (Hopkins 15); Sydenha.ni 61 (Mahoney 19) and 19 for four wickets (Free 13). Parker and Mahoney for the losers, -and' Harry and Free for the winners, were the best bowlers.

Argyie and. Butchers B met at Lancaster Park. The former batted first aaid made 153 (Ball 67, Rawecn 30, Buchanan 12 and Wilson 12). The Butchers responded with 47 (Buller 13), and 17 for threewickets. King and Cox for the Butchers, and Willis for Argyie were .the most successful bowlers.
