AQUATIC.

A meeting of the newly-elected committee of the Christchureh Amateur Rowing Club was held on Tuesday evening ; present—Messrs W. H. Smith (captain), W. Roxburgh, A. Menzies, J. M. Anderson, H. E. Gotfc, F. Musgrove, J. R. Moore ana W. Smith. It was' decided chat the- official opening of the new boathouse and club-rooms should take the form of a, dinner, to be held on Thursday, Norember 3, ami the captain, deputy-captain a.nd Mr W. Roxburgh were elected a subcommittee to make all arrangements. Messrs H. 11. Smith, J. M. Anderson and F. Musgrove were- elected a racing committee, and Mr J. M. Anderson was elected a delegate to the Sports' Protection Association. Mr H. H. Smith was elected to represent the club on the Canterbury Rowing Association. It was decided that the Trial Pair-oar Race should l>s rowed on 'November 14, and that entries should close at the boathouse on October 24, at 7.30 p.m. A sub-committee was appointed to revise the by-lawa and report at a. future meeting. A vote of thanks was accorded the ladies and friends who assisted at afternoon tea on opening day. The. Tinia-vu." Rowing Club opened it-s 1904-5 season yesterday afwnio-on, with, a procession of boats, bands and refreshments, and a scratch rac* or two wi-thin the harbour. The afternoon was beautifully fine for the purpose, and there was a good attendance of spectatorE, especially of ladies. Three fours and four pairs and a. pleasure boat were put out by the dub, and the procession was led by the Harbour Board's oil launch towing the Na,Ta! cutter, with the uancl and other pawen-gers. After a couple of turns round the harbour the boats closed up alongside, the Moody Wharf, and the president, Dr Bowie, formally declared the season open, and the crowd, by cheers, endorsed his wish for the siiccem of the club.
