ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
[Per Press Association.] PALMERSTON NORTH, February 25. A well-known building contractor, G. F. Baker, committed suicide early this morning by shooting himself with a revolver. HR body was found, on tho borough reserve, on. which -a raorgue has just been erected. Deceased was sixty-ona years of age. He leaves a wife and family of nine grown up children. Ho calm© here five or six years ago from th© Taranaki district. Insomnia- is supposed to have been tho cans© ot the suicide. . . WELLINGTON, February 26. In consequence of tho horses attached to a cab in which ho was driving, to-night, getting out of tho driver’s control, Mr T. M. Wilford, M.H.R., jumped from the vehicle while it was travelling at a furious rate down Mulgravo Street. He was picked up unconscious, though he recovered later on. He was badly knocked about. The cab driver, Naylor, was thrown from his box and taken to the hospital, suffering ,from concussion of the brain. Ytestcrday afternoon a ballast train- collided with a cart which wa.y being driven by a man named M’Hugh over a crossing on tho railway between Ohoka and Eyre ton. Tho vehicle was smashed, and the occupant was injured. • Mr Umlrill was thrown from a trap at Ashburton, on Thursday. He was not seriously hurt.
