Hammond joined OHivier, and both bats-' men scored steadily, taking the score to 61, when OHivier was caught at fine-leg by Barron off Harper. 61—4—15. Boxshall filled tho vacancy, but hail a short stay, being clean-bowled by Dalgleish after he had made 6. 69—5—6. Bam' joined Hammond, and at 78, the latter was clean howled by Dalgleish. 78—6—13. Vernon filled the vacancy, and hit out lustily, lifting Harper out of tho ground twice. With 109 on the board'll© was stumped by M’Donakl off Harper. Lawrence partnered Barry, and Orr took tho ball from Dalgleish, but was replaced by Lynch, with the board showing 123. At 144 another change, was tried, White and Dalgleish going on. Nino nmo were added, and then Barry played all over a straight one from Dalgleish, and was clean bowled. 153—8—37. Robson came in and added three, but then lost Lawrence, who was. out Ibw to Dalgleish. 156—9—6. Howell, the last man, joined Robson, seven runs being' wanted to avert an hmings defeat. Howell hit a four and a two, arid a four to Robson brought the total to 156. Fours followed quicklv, until Howell was clean bowled by Dalgleish. The innings closed for 186, leaving South Canterbury 24 to- get. to win.

Orr and Owen opened South Canterbury's second innings at 4.35 p.m., Vernon bowling from th© north end. With five on tho board Orr hit- Howell to leg, and hesitating to respond to his partner’s call was run out s—l—l. Barron joined Owen and lifted his second ball from Howell out of the ground, bringing ten up. With the score unaltered Owen was splendidly caught at fine slip by OHivier, off Vernon. 11—2—0. White partnered Barron, and was missed in th© slips off his f-econd ball. With 17 on the board White gave another chance in the slips, and OHivier brought off another fino catch. 17—3 —1. Macdonald filled. the vacancy, and Barron scoring a four and two singjes, the scores were equal. At five o’clock Macdonald made tho winning hit, driving Vernon for four, all run out, and South Canterbury won the match by seven wickets. The following were tho scores:—• SOUTH CANTERBURY.
