PERSONAL.

Mr T. M. Wilford, M.H.R.. arrived from •Wellington by the Mararoa. yesterday. G. Sutherland and A. Huston (tho half-mile-champion of New Zealand) left for Dunedin yesterday, to ■ take part in-Hlio Otago Cycle Club’s meeting. Mr A. Bond was a_ passenger by the express train to- Dunedin yesterday. Mr T. J.' Bourke and Miss Bourke, of V/cllington, are in Christchurch. Mr R. Hardy-Topham and Mrs HardyTop hum (Brighton, England l ), and Miss Alice Scott and Miss Annie Scott (Sydney) wpre callers at the Christchurch Tourist Office yesterday.

Sir 6. Clifford and Mr J. C. Maddisou went south by the express train yesterday. The following were passengers for Hanmer Springs yesterday—Mr and Mrs, W. H. S. Deal, Miss Washer, 'Mrs Howey, Mr D. Kruse, Mr ; G. Lisle, Mr W. H. Norton and Mr E. S. Luttrell.

Among tho passengers from Wellington by the s.s. .Mararoa yesterday were Dr Ulrich and Judge Davy. Mr William Cable has been elected chairman of the Wellington Harbour Board. Sir John Hall arrived in Christchurch yesterday morning. He intends to leave today for Hororata.

Mr Dong!as M’Lean, of Hawke’s Bay, is in Christchurch.

Commissioner Dinnie and Inspector Gillies left for the south yesterday.

Mr H. Pi Madden will represent Ashburton at/the triennial meeting of the Hibernian Society, in Timaru.

Messrs 1). Watters, Gilfillan, Kingdon (Gore) j M. Friedlandcr (Ashburton), W. Crowe (Dunedin), G. R. Storey (Dunedin), and Mr and Mrs J. W. Swift (Dunedin) wore passengers to Christchurch by the express train last night.' Mr H. Ford (Ashburton), Mr M. C. Or: bell (Levels), Mr 0. Parata (Wellington), and Mr and Mrs J. H. iDavisou (St Leonards) arrived in .-.Christchurch yesterday.' 7 ■

Among the passengers for Wellington by the Mararoa last night were the Rev j. A. Luxford, Professor Scott, and Messrs Yv T . A. Sim (Dunedin), T. Wingfidd (Auckland), Herman, Lewis and Barraby (Dunedin). * Sir W. J. Steward, the Hon E. Richardson and Mr T. M. Wilford, M.H.R., left for Wellington, last evening.
