The Auckland Prohibition League has passed resolutions urging the Government to apply Section 33 of the Licensing Act to make it illegal to send liquor to the King Country, that the Maori Councils should be given further power to deal with the liquor question in their districts, and protesting against the proposal to require a majority of those enrolled, instead of a. majority of Jvotes recorded, to make a local option poll effective. HAMILTON, August. 26. The police are conducting a. vigorous campaign against sly grog in the King Country. At the Magistrate’s Court, Te Awamutu, yesterday, three charges were heard against George Hill of selling liquor without a license at Kawhia. Tire accused applied to come before a jury and was accordingly committed for tri *l. A large number of cases are to be heard, and it is expected that they will occupy the Court for the remainder of the week. ■
