SCHOOL COMMITTEES.
The Smithbridge School Committee met on Monday evening, the Eev H. H. S. Hamilton "presiding. The headmaster reported the number on the roll to be 174, the average attendance being 145. Thenames of 38 absentees were forwarded, and a sub-committee was appointed to inquire into the cases and take action. The question of giving holidays for the potato-pick-ing season was deferred. It was resolved to' ask all parents of probable High School pupils to forward 1 the names afc once. A Works Committee was appointed. The Leeston School Committee met on Mondav night, the Rev W. Grant in the chair. The Chairman detailed what he had done in reference! to the proposed High School, and said he- had received enough favourable replies to make up the number necessary to start the school. lb was resolved to at once forward the application for a District High School to the Education Board.
