The following appointments have been made bv the North Canterbmy Education Board:—Kaiapoi, Mr A. J. Mayne, assistant master, secondary department; Spotswood, Mr J. G. Poison, master; -Aylesbury, -Miss E. Thompson, mistress ; Homebush, Miss J. M'Kinnon, mistress; Oxford East, Miss C. Smith, assistant-mistress; Riverside/Miss J. lnvin, mistress; Yaldhurst, Miss A. Oxby, mistress; Lyttelton, Miss 11. M. Kent, assistant-mistress. - Mr D. M'Millan, a member of the Canterbury Land Board, t went south by the express yesterday for the purpose of inspecting the newly-acq'uired Levels estate, in company with other members of the Board. Messrs T. Meek, G. W. Aspinall, P. W. Hutton and W. Clarke were passengers by the south express yesterday. The Education Board has confirmed the engagement of the following probationary oupif-teachers : —St. Albans, Misses A. Horrell and Gladys Marshall; Kaiapoi, Miss Annie Lynskey; New Brighton, Miss Martha M'Kinney; Lyttelton West, Miss Natalie Cole; Piangiora, Miss Bessie Lace. Tho American mail reports that Ira D. Sankey, the singing evangelist., and formerly a partner with Moody, was stricken with " blindness at Brooklyn on March 5. Mr J. Fitzgerald,"from Whangarei, has been appointed to succeed Mr W. Shanaghan as clerk of the Magistrate's Court at Lyttelton, instead of Mr RodgerS, as previousdy arranged. Mr Siianaghan's departure from Lyttelton has-been postponed till April 7. The directors of the New Zealand Insurance Company have appointed Mr Henry Horton, one of the proprietors of trie " NewZealand Herald," to the vacancy on their Board caused by the death of his father, tho late Mr A. G. Horton. Lady Ward, accompanied by Mr B. M. Wilson and Party, arrived from the south by the express last "night, and went on to Wellington by the Te Anau. Captain Jordan arrived from Wellington by the s.s. Te Ar.au yesterday.
