_a ■ [Per Press Association.] DUNEDIN, Jan. 4. An inquiry touching the death of James M'Bride, a labourer, at Caversham, has been adjourned pending a post mortem examination. Deceased, who was fifty-three years of age, stated, when found lying at the back of a stable, that his son-in-law, Thomas Broofield, had knocked him about, and his daughter, Mrs Broofield, prodded', him m the stomach with a crutch. This statement was afterwards repeated in Broofield's presence, the latter remarking that he had never touched the deceased.
