THE VOLUNTEERS.

Colonel Webb, accompanied by Captain Bond, went to Tai Tapu yesterday to inspect the Canterbury Mounted Rifles, now in camp there. Last evening Colonel Webb inspected’ the Bangiora Rifles at Rangiora. The South Canterbury Mounted Rifles having spent a week in camp on the Hadlow Estate, broke camp yesterday morning l . They were to have had a field day on Thursday, with infantry companies of Timaru as opponents, but owing to a heavy rain soaking the ground the previous night, this order was cancelled. There was a good muster of the corps at the camp, under Captain Gordon P. Wood, and some very useful work was done.
