FOUR HUNDRED LIVES LOST. ' ‘ __ I WIDESPREAD DESTRUCTION. , United Press Association—By Electrio T el egraph—Oopyrigh T. ROME, Sept. 27. A cyclone lasting twenty-four hours swept over Catania, Sicily. A German steamer foundered. Great havoc was dona by swollen streams. It is estimated that 400 persons perished at •Modica. One hundred 1 bodies have been recovered. The flood swept everything from the ground floors of the buildings in the lower streets. The torrent inland destroyed bridges and roads. Several bouses and their inmates at Scicli were washed away.
