ATHLETIC.
A committee meeting of the Canterbury Athletic and Cycling Club was held onl Monday evening, when there was a full attendance. Too Secretary slated that all arrangements had been made for the club’s annual social on Wednesday, and that ai largo number of tickets had been sold. The opening run of the dub would take place on Sunday morning. Sept. 14, when 'the members would journey to Kaiapoi. Thw Shooting Committee reported that the range was in constant use, as the Association) matches between the various Volunteer corps and clubs were being fired there, and that the club’s team was in a good posi-i tion. Arrangements were made for a shooting tournament to bo held immediately. Billiard matches and ping-pong tournaments were being held weeldy, and had proved a great attraction to the members and their friends. It was decided toj form a cricket team, and to enter for the Thursday competition. Eight new members were elected.
