At the kauri sales, 638 cases were, offered, and 65 sold. Prices are unchanged. Frozen meat,—Mutton—Cross-bred wethers and maiden ewes, Canterbury 3|d, Dunedin and Southland 3Jd, North Island 3 11-16 d. Lamb—Prime Canterbury 4gd, fair average, including Dunedin, Southland, Wellington and secondary Canterbury, 4 11-16 d. River Plate mutton unchanged. New Zealand beef, 1801 b to 2201 b per quarter, fair average quality, ox forequarters 4d, ox hindquarters 4|d. The above prices are the official quotations furnished by tho Frozen Meat Trade Association. The basis of the quotation is sales of not less than 100 carcases of mutton or lamb, or 25 quarters of beef. All quotations for mutton are for fair avera.ge quality. Quotations for New Zealand laonb do not include sales of small lambs or heavies of inferior quality. The Agent-General's weekly cable message, dated London, August 30, is as follows :—"The mutton market is weak, and there is no alteration since last week. Lamb is quiet, and a further drop in prices seems imminent. The supplies of Home-grown lamb are heavy and lowering the prices of New Zealand iamb. Canterbury lamb 4|d, other brands 4Jd. Beef is steady. New Zealand hindquarters 4|d, forequarters 4d. Hemp is steady. ' Good fair Wellington,' ou spot £33 per ton, SeptemherNoveinber shipments £3l per ton. There) i? no alteration in cocksfoot. The prospects for choicest butter for next season are encouraging. A considerable quantity of butter is now arriving and being placed in cold stores."
