COVERED TRUCKS FOR CATTLE.
Mr D. Rutherford brought under the notice of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty last night the condition of fjomia .'at cattle in covered itrucks sent front the Ciuverd'en sale recently. He said that, in several instances, bullocks from 10001 b to 11001 b, with horns, were put into covered trucks, and the poor brutes were in such a position that they would have to stand.' practically, with tiheir heads between their knees, and be bumped about for several hours, before they reached their destination. The owners had no option but. to use those trucks. Th'e writer had given instructions to the guard that, if the cattle went down, he was to- have the trucks shunted and the cattle untrucked. He himself had refused to use the covered trucks for his own cattle. That was a case iu which, in his opinion, something should be done. The. Inspector said that he would tee several of those connected with handling cattle and ascertain what .suggestions they would offer. After that some representation might be made to the authorities en the'matter. The matter was left in the hands of the Inspector.
