[Per Press Association.] NAPIER, August 19.

A single woman, named Elizabeth Smidfc, aged twenty-seven, in service at Hastings, gave birth to a child on Saturday. The infant was subsequently found smothered in the mother’s bed. The mother admits that the child was alive when born. A charge of murdering her infant is to be preferred against the woman.
