[Fun Press Association.] INVERCARGILL, August 6. ' The Wellington Football Team Las arrived. The weather prospects for to-mor-row are good, but the ground may be a bit greasy. : . THE RUGBY UNION. The general monthly meeting of the Canterbury Rugby Union yvas held last evening, when the President, the Mayor (Mr A, E. G. Rhodes), presided and twenty delegatee were present. The Secretary reported the work done during the past month. The rules were discussed seriatim and a number of alterations were effected on the recommendation of .the sub-committee. It was decided that tbb Old Bays’ High School Club should be affiliated to the Union. The Secretary stated that under- the agreement with the New South Wales, (Queensland, and New Zealand Unions, it was provided that any team touring should have two clear days between each match. The New Zealand Union had allotted Wednesday, August 28, for the Canterbury match in Christchurch with the New South Wales team, which would arrive shortly, and the G.R.U. had objected. The New Zealand Union had written stating that the date could not be altered. V ednesday was a very bad day for Christchurch. The money accruing from these matches went towards paying expenses wjien a New Zealand team returned 1 the visit. In the past, when there had been a deficit, each Union had been called on to pay a levy and the meeting should consider whether Canterbury should play on the Wednesday. On August 17 the New South Wales team played Wellington* on Wednesday following Southland, on August 24 Otago, and on the following Saturday the New Zealand team in Wellington. It was decided that, in the event of the Union being unable to get the date altered, the match should be played on Wednesday..
