A large number of spectators wore present this morning. The heavy frost again delayed the work until the sun was wal. up. Keith was, however, out before breakfast, and Sundial, Employer and Forward Guard, were given light tasks. After oreakfast, Somerled, a.one, galloped silt furlongs, moving freely. Long Tom and Larboard Watch finished fast .over the last six furlongs of two steady rounds, and Marina compassed two circuits at half-speed. Sant Ila-rio and Scottish Minstrel were associated in a seven-furlong gallop on the cinders. The pair were ridden hard, and the former finished several lengths to the good. Oyster finished slrong.y over the last part of a steady round, and 'Terror held Aide-de-Camp and Tigress safe at the end of a strongly-run six furlongs, the Winter Cup^Candida to moving very pleasingly. Straybirdnnd Favona, after cantering once round, jumped away at the stands, and the pair raced together over another circuit, the former showing to advantage throughout the _ gallop. (Haydn was of no assistance to Tauhei over a fast mile. The latter-is evidently very well, and created a favourable, impression. Jewel Gun defeated Whitirea in a gallop over a mile on the sand, while Schnapps land Right Metal, separately, moved freely oyer two strong circuits. Cadet's task was a light one, and Hawthorne was slightly better than Huku in a sixfurlong gallop. Benzoin and Dundas accomplished a sterling gallop over a mile, the former showing to advantage. Malatua and Military galloped six furlongs, while Social Pest moved freely over three circuits. The last-named is in fine buckle. Cora Linn and Magnificent brushed over half a mile, and Pallas defeated Tremor over -a similar distance. Romanoff sprinted a few furlongs. Lady Dundas, alone, registered the best mile of the morning, and The Needle, Hairtrigger and Roller were companions in a strong working gallop over two circuits, the three moving pleasingly. Muscovite and The Hempie galloped six furlongs, and Hotu, alone, did solid work over two rounds. This horse is getting through a severe preparation, and Is thriving on it. Derringcotte and Rodara fenced capitally over the hurdles, while Daramoor executed two,' strong rounds, Battleaxe doing a similar task. The last-named is rapidly coming into favour for the Winter Cup. Goldspur brushed over five furlongs, and Dun Brown end Surprise jumped in a finished manner over the big fences, as also did Pipi, while Dummy, Venture, Angle and a few others did steady to medium work. Canhongato was out, but did not work. His injury is in the off hind leg, and was caused through his knuckling over while grazing. It is feared that he may not be able to face the starter at the coming meeting. ■ - Yesterday afternoon, 'Dartmoor (P. Johnstone), The Needle (Clark) and The Hempie (Powell) were companions in a schooling task over the hurdles. At the second obstacle the last-named fell, in trying to run off, but was remounted, and fenced fairly well. Dartmoor jumped very freely, buf The Needle, did'not perform so well. > NEW ZEALAND METROPOLITAN TROTTING 'CLUB.
