THE POULTRY SECTION..
SUCCESSFUL CANTERBURY EXHIBITORS. [From Ottr Correspondent.] DUNEDIN, July 18. The Dunedin Fanciers’ Club’s show opened to-day. Taken all round the show was the best seen in Dunedin, and the entries numbered 120 more than at last year’s show, the poultry section supplying, the increased number. Mr J. Maude, Melbourne, judged poultry, pigeons and dogs, and Air P. H. Luscombe, Alakikibi, canaries. The judging of poultry occupied the whole day, some of the classes being very difficult, and the ,judging of pigeons will be taken to-morrow morning, before starting on dogs. A great improvement is noticeable in several breeds, Langshana, Wyandottes, Alinorcas and Leghorns being specially strong. Christchurch exhibitors had a good share of wins. Air AI. Donohue secured first for black-red game, cock, first for silver-spangled Hamburg hen, first for rosecomb Leghorn hen, second for golden Wyandotte cock, and all the prizes in the duekwing .game classes. Afessrs Bundy Bros, showed in Indian -game, and gained a first award an each class. Mr R. Wilson •was very successful in the Leghorn classes, being first for brown cock, second for hen, first for cockerel, second and third for pullet, and first in three classes for pile leghorns. • In addition he easily won the challenge trophy for most p omits in Leghorns, and as this is his second successive win, the trophy now becomes his property. Mr C. Lucas, was second and third for white Leghorn cock, and .first and second for pullet,’ Mr H. Hearfield being tim'd in the latter class. Air G. Butcher had nob much opposition in dark Dorkings, and he was first for cock and pullet, and second, for hen. Air J. Tindall won in silver Wyandotte cock, and was second for pullet, the bird that secured first in the pullet class being awarded the trophy as the-best Wyandotte in the show. Mr F. Bogen was, as usual, a very -successful exhibitor, winning in three classes for Langshana and five for Wyandottes. In addition his La.n.gshan pullet was adjudged me best bird of any breed in the show..
[Per Press Association.] DUNEDIN, July 18. The Dunedin Fanciers’ Club’s show was opened to-day, and marks a distinct advance in the majority of cases. The chief prizetakers were:—Dunedin Fanciers’ Club challenge trophy, £5 ss, for game and game bantams—M. Donohue (Papanui, Christ church); Lochiel Whisky trophy, £ls 15s, for most points in Leghorns;—R. Wilson (Opawa, Christchurch); Paterson and Barr’s challenge trophy, £6 6s, for most points in Langstons—F. Rogen (Evansclale). M. Donohue (Papanui) and B. Hart (Lawrence), and Bundy Bros. (Lyttelton) share the honours in Game. F. J. Lundcn (Whimate) takes four firsts in Plymouth Rocks, C. Lucas (Opawa) first in White Leghorn pullet, E. Reilly (Studholme Junction) first in Leghorn pullet any colour, Black Orpington pullet and Pekin ducks, J. Taidale (Christchurch) Silver Wyandotte cock.
