MEETINGS OF SOCIETIES.

At a meeting of the Tax' Tapu Mutual Improvement Society, held on Monday evening, the following officers were elected for the coming year: —President, Mr R. A. Forbes; vice-presidents, Messrs J. Voss and R. Macartney; secretary and treasurer, Mr W. L. Morgan; editor of journal, Mr R. Macartney; Committee of Management, Mrs 0. M. Suckling, Misses Rutledge and M. Forbes, and Messrs S. A. Kingan and. J. Forbes; Syllabus Committee, Miss Rutledge and Messrs ,R. Macartney and J. Voss.

The regular meeting of tho Loyal City qt Norwich Lodge, Lyttelton, 4356, was held on Tuesday evening, N.G. Wells m the chair. It was resolved'to take immediate action to ■celebrate the Jubilee of Oddfellowship in Canterbury, the Loyal City of Norwich being the pioneer Lodge, having been erected in December, 1851, at the Old Canterbury Hotel, ! then he'd. by Bro Roland Davis. The Committee of Management, with several past officers, were elected as a committee to consider and bring.up a report at the ensuing summoned meeting in August. The Third Sentiment was given and responded to by P.P.G.M. Kent, North Canterbury District. The receipts of the evening amounted to £93 15s 6d. . The first meeting of the newly-elected Council of thl Canterbury Horticultural Society was_held on Tuesday evening. The choir was taken by Mr James Cray. The following were elected as members of the Executive Committee: —Messrs F. Biggs, A. W. Buxton, W. A. Carp-enter, J. Cotton, J. Gray, J. Guntrip, and W. Willcox.. It wag decided to engage Mr E*. C. Dann as secretary of the Society, also to arrange for tho use of Ms office at Messrs Kaye and Garber’s Buildings as a meeting room. The Executive Committee were requested to meet on Saturday next to prepare the schedule for the Spring Show. Mr A. E. Lowe, one of the delegates to the Dunedin Horticultural Conference, read a report of the transactions. Mr Lowe wao heartily thanked for his attendance, and a vote of thanks was also passed to Messrs Cockayne and Murphy, who -had assisted to. prepare. the report.
