SCHOOL COMMITTEES.

The 'usual monthly meeting of the Kiist Christchurch School Committee was held on July 4; present—Messrs J.. R. Brunt (chairman),' S. Clarice, W. Epsom, G. E, Franklin, T. G. Strange and D. Lumsden. An apology for' absence was received from Mr' G. F. Henry. The (master's report showed the roll number to be 1461; average attendance 1279. The school fed been left In good order by tho Public Works Department, to whom it had been grafted to accommodate the 'visiting cadets.. A petition from a number of Philiipstown resi-. dents was received, objecting to the change in the dinner-nonr. The matter was left in, the hands of the current month's Visiting Committee—Messrs Lumsden, Strange and Otley—with power to act in conjunction with the Chairman. The Visiting Committee's report for last month referred to several matters which required' 'attention. It was resolved that some of tlhese should ba undertaken by the committee, and others were, referred to. the Board of Education. It was resolved that no member of the committee be allowed to supply goods to the committee for payment.A meeting of the Sydenham School Committee was. h,eld on Tuesday evening; present —Messrs. L. Packer (chairman), J, Forrester, W. Marks, W. Miller, J. Perks and S. Williams. . The headmaster reported the roll number for the month to be 1085, with an average attendance at 925. The Inspector's report, was received. In their general remarks they stated:—"The school work during the year has pursued the ordinary roxrfcine in the several standard subr jects, with a result which, in view of the number of intervening distractions, is generally creditable to the industry and capacity of the teachers employed." The committee considered the Inspectors' report very satisfactory, and passed a hearty vote of thanks to the headmaster and staff for their successful efforts. The monthly meeting of the Belfast School Committee was held art Monday evening. The master's report for the quarter ending June 28 showed the saverage attendance to have been: Boys 116.1, girls 100.5; total 216,6 ;on roll 263. The average attendance for the month at the side school was 11.7, highest 13, on the roll 14. The monthly meeting of the West Christchurch School Committee was held on Wednesday evening; present—Mr C. D. Morris (chairman), Messrs G. T. Chisnall, G. Barrell, G. Watson, J. Munnings, J. J. Isbister, J. H. Jones, and Br Chilton. The Chairman's action in allowing the use of the school for the accommodation of cadets and postponing there-apenhtr for a, .week was approved. The Inspector's report received was more than usually full, and rftade complimentary reference to the domestic; instruction that was being imparted without interfering with the ordinary 'routine work. It. was decided to congratulate the Headmaster and teaching staff upon the satisfactory report. The 'Headmaster was autliorlsed to make similar arrangements for cooking classes with the School of Domestic Instruction as in past vears. A telegram, had been received from Mr Kain, returning with, the Fourth Contingent, accepting extended leave granted by the Board. The roll number for the quarter ending June 30 was 995, and average attendance 864. Accounts were passed amounting to £26 15s lOd, and the meeting closed. The Kaiapoi School Committee met on ■ Monday evening. The 'Headmaster reported the number attending school as 88 per cent, of the full roll, which he attributed to the bad weather. A few requirements were referred to the Visiting Committee,' and a list of absentees was referred to the Secretary.
